From the Artist:
My work transposes historic icons and artworks highlighting the finer and often overlooked narratives contained within. Frequently using text and layers the paintings are presented in carefully assembled combinations teasing the context to the surface. Often employing the use of crude text bubbles the work gives a humorous and critical voice to the culture these figures continue to define.
About the Artist:
Spencer Herr (American, b. 1974) is a contemporary American painter best known for his use of traditional realism, pop culture, text and iconography. Herr, self taught, earned a BA at Northern Arizona University. His work has been exhibited in Art fairs, group shows and solo exhibitions including the Outsider Art Fair, Hickory Museum of Art, and the Mobile Museum of Art.
